Early this morning, the House took a dramatic vote, preventing Speaker Johnson and President Trump from ramming through an extension and expansion of FISA section 702. Their proposal was dressed up in deceitful language pretending to add reforms, but in fact expanding the way the program can be used against Americans.
This is a major victory for our bipartisan coalition of grassroots activists and civil society groups who have been fighting FISA for almost 20 years.
Our work isn’t finished!
The House unanimously moved to extend the FISA authority through April 30 to allow for further negotiations. The Senate will vote on Monday on the temporary extension.
We have 13 days to solidify support for crucial reforms including closing the backdoor search loophole and the data broker loophole.
Our coalition is strong and tireless. We scored a major victory last night by defeating Speaker Johnson’s fake reform proposal. Now, we need to secure real reform. We have 13 days to do it!
