ICE kills woman in Minneapolis

Defending Rights & Dissent staff has reviewed a video showing an ICE agent shooting and killing a U.S. citizen in Minneapolis. The video analyzed by our staff shows the individual, who was possibly a community observer, was attempting to drive away from ICE when she was shot and killed by a masked ICE agent.

The Supreme Court is absolutely clear. Under the Fourth Amendment, law enforcement cannot use lethal force to prevent someone from fleeing unless they have probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others.

We call for a full, transparent investigation, including a criminal investigation into the masked ICE agent for homicide and deprivations of constitutional rights.

We reiterate our call to prohibit all federal law enforcement from masking or concealing their identities. Not only are such secret police antithetical to a democracy, they make it difficult to identify officers who abuse their power, break our laws, and violate our Constitution.
