May 12, 2026NSPM-7: Trump’s War on Dissent
Last fall, Trump issued National Security Presidential Memorandum-7 (NSPM-7), his blueprint to crush the left. The memo relies on the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Forces and gives a central role to his Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller. Days earlier, Trump issued an Executive Order designating “antifa” as a domestic terror organization.
Join Defending Rights & Dissent and Drop Site News on Monday, May 11th at 7pm ET / 4pm PT for an important update on Trump and Miller’s war against dissent. A panel of experts will break down the memo, analyze the threats it poses to our rights, and place it in the wider legacy of FBI and other domestic intelligence abuses.
Panelists include:
- Chip Gibbons, Policy Director at Defending Rights & Dissent and author of the forthcoming The Imperial Bureau: The FBI, Political Surveillance, and the Rise of the U.S. National Security State. Chip has written about NSPM-7 for Drop Site News, and his reporting and analysis has appeared in The Guardian, The Nation, Jacobin, and elsewhere.
- Spencer Ackerman, a Pulitzer Prize and National Magazine Award-winning reporter, has covered the War on Terror almost from its inception. His book Reign of Terror: How The 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump won accolades including an American Book Award in 2022. Ackerman is a contributor to Zeteo and publishes a newsletter, Forever Wars.
- Terry Albury, former FBI agent who exposed racist and xenophobic profiling and other abusive practices in the Bureau’s confidential informant program and was sentenced to four years in prison in 2018. A 17-year veteran of the FBI, Terry has been speaking out since his release in 2020 about the FBI’s misconduct.
Moderating the panel will be Drop Site’s Murtaza Hussain, host of the Intercepted podcast.
