Last week it was leaked that Chelsea Manning is on President Obama’s shortlist for commutations. There are less than three days left until Obama leaves office. Time could not be more of the essence for Chelsea Manning.

Take Action: Call the Department of Justice Now

Chelsea Manning is not seeking a full pardon. She is merely asking her sentence be commuted to time served. She has served seven years of a thirty-five year sentence. That’s longer than anybody has ever served for releasing classified information to the media. At times, Manning has been subjected to treatment that likely constitutes torture. While we believe that as a whistleblower Manning should never have been charged with a crime, this is the best chance we have to free her.

Please Call the Department of Justice Office of the Pardon Attorney at 202-616-6070 or the Department of Justice comment line at 202-353-1555.

Tell the person who answers the phone:

I am ____, and I am calling to ask that Chelsea Manning’s sentence be commuted to time served. [It is optional to give a reason why. You can explain that Manning’s leaks were in the public interest, that no harm came from them, and she has already served more time in prison than anyone else has for a comparable crime]
