How do the government, media, entertainment industry and other institutions in our society target Muslim citizens and foster intolerance and racism?

What are we doing to challenge Islamophobia in Montgomery County, in Maryland, and nationally?

Defending Rights & Dissent executive director, Sue Udry, joined a panel to address local and national issues around Islamophobia. The other panelists were Dr. Maha Hilal, Organizer, Witness Against Torture, Steering committee member of the DC Justice for Muslims Coalition and Ramah Kudaimi, Board member, Washington Peace Center, Steering committee member of the DC Justice for Muslims Coalition, Co-founder Muslim American Women’s Policy Forum.

About 100 people turned out on a warm and sunny Sunday to learn about Islamophobia, and heard the panelists’ concerns about the county’s Countering Violent Extremism program and discussed ways the community can mobilize to end the program. The program was sponsored by the Takoma Park Mobilization and the Montgomery County Civil Rights Coalition.
