Defending Rights & Dissent, Leading Civil Liberties Voice in the Nation’s Capital, Supports Resolutions Blocking Arms Sales to Israel
November 11, 2024Trump has a blueprint to silence dissent. We have a plan to fight back.
For six decades, we’ve defended the American people’s right to know and freedom to act no matter which party controlled the White House, Congress, or Supreme Court.
Earlier today, the election was called for Donald Trump. But we’ve been prepared to defend your rights no matter who occupies the Oval Office, and we have a plan for a Trump White House.
Trump hasn’t just demonized protesters and attacked the media. His close supporters have put together a plan to crack down on pro-Palestine protesters, surveil journalists, and jail whistleblowers. And Trump has made clear he wants to violate the First Amendment by criminalizing flag burning and deporting activists.
They have declared their intent to abuse laws like RICO to silence those who support Palestinian rights and hire more FBI counterintelligence agents to spy on journalists so the government can unmask and imprison whistleblowers.
In spite of claiming to oppose the “Deep State,” Trump has supporters waiting in the wings who are long term surveillance hawks and militarists. And during Trump’s last administration, the Espionage Act was used for the first time against a journalist (Julian Assange), a Muslim Ban was enacted via executive order, drone strikes and air wars escalated, our unconstitutional military intervention in Yemen grew, and the FBI and DHS were set loose on George Floyd protesters who were branded as “violent extremists” and “domestic terrorists.”
While we were prepared to take on civil liberties violations no matter who becomes the next President, we’ve studied Trump’s plans and we’ve made our own. We are wasting no time making sure the lame duck Congress finally passes much-needed protections to prevent government spying on journalists. We’re on high alert for bipartisan, anti-Palestinian, anti-free speech efforts to hand Trump new tools to silence student protesters.
We run on a shoestring budget and our unapologetic opposition to the national security state – no matter which party is expanding it – doesn’t win us friends. But we just can’t afford to let the government get away with the greatest attack on dissent in decades.
Donate today: we need you with us as we defend your right to know and freedom to act.
